National and Local Code of Ethics for Members of ASTD & CCASTD

ASTD (National)
Code of Ethics:
The ASTD Code of Ethics provides guidance to members to be self-managed human resources development professionals. Clients and employers should expect from ASTD members the highest possible standards of personal integrity, professional competence, sound judgment and discretion. Developed by the professional for the profession, the ASTD Code of Ethics is the Society’s public declaration of its members’ obligation to themselves, their profession and the society.

I strive to:
  • Recognize the rights and dignities of each individual.
  • Develop human potential.
  • Provide my employer, clients and learners with the highest level of quality education training and development.
  • Comply with all copyright laws and the laws and regulations governing my position.
  • Keep informed of pertinent knowledge and competence in the human resource field.
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity in the practice of my profession.
  • Support my peers and avoid conduct which impedes their practicing their profession.
  • Conduct myself in an ethical and honest manner.
  • Improve the public understanding of human resource development and management.
  • Fairly and accurately represent my human resource development/human resource management credentials, qualifications, experience and ability.
  • Contribute to the continuing growth of the Society and its members.
Rules of Behavior for National Members

Members of the Society shall:

  • Refrain from any overt statement or pointed humor which disparages the rightful dignity and social equality of any individual or group when presenting from any Society platform.
  • When using the Society’s name or in introductions to presentations, make clear the ideas presented are personal and do not represent those of the Society.
  • Refrain from using the Society’s platform to directly sell, promote, or otherwise encourage participants to purchase or use the speaker’s products or services.

Code of Ethics & Guidelines for Behavior:
Membership in CCASTD carries with it a responsibility to be aware of the importance of ethical conduct.

As members of CCASTD, we shall:
  • Refrain from using CCASTD’s name to market, promote or in any way encourage the sales of our own products or services.
  • Use networking during Chapter sponsored activities as a method of meeting other training professionals who share our common interests, not to inappropriately market our services or seek job referrals.
  • Refrain from taking part in any transaction in which our own interests may conflict with the best interests of the chapter and its members.
  • Adhere to the ASTD Code of Ethics and Rules of Behavior for National Members.

Chapter leaders shall:
  • Cooperate with all board members and leaders in accomplishing the goals of CCASTD
  • Participate in and support sound group process.
  • Strive to make problem solving process efficient, being careful to facilitate, rather than hinder discussions.
  • Readily contribute ideas and listen to contributions of others.
  • Comply with CCASTD financial policies and procedures.
  • Encourage and support one another.
  • Protect the best interests of fellow board members and the training profession
  • Contribute to the continuing growth of the Chapter and its members.
  • Adhere to the Rules for National Leaders.
Rules for National Leaders

National leaders of the Society:
  • Will not solicit or receive anything of value for services rendered in the Society’s name or using the Society’s materials.
