Session 1: Training and Development Profession
Learning Objectives
  • Explain the WLPI program goals, the project and the mentoring process used throughout the program resulting in a clear understanding of the program purpose and process.
  • Describe all elements of the 2013 Competency Model.
  • Explain nine trends shaping the Training and Development profession and the impact those trends have on career development.
  • Recognize the most common adult learning principles, resulting in a greater understanding around the importance of knowing the audience and their specific learning needs and styles.
  • Interpret your individual Kolb Learning Style Inventory in order to apply these concepts and information when designing and delivering training.
  • Identify the role of the Training and Development professional and broader roles within WLP including performance consulting.
  • Complete a personal assessment of the WLP areas of interest and experience that result in a general direction of your career path and professional development.

The WLPI certificate may be applied toward graduate & undergraduate degrees at DePaul School for New Learning

HRCI recognizes each module of the WLPI as continuing education credit for PHR/SPHR. Each module counts as 6 hours of non-strategic credit.

Substitutions and Cancellations
If a student is unable to attend an individual module or the entire session, they may substitute another participant in their place, at no penalty.
Cancellations must be received at least 14 days before the before the session to avoid a $75 cancellation fee. No credit or refunds will be given after the start of the Institute.
If a cancellation is requested once the full session has already started, the participant may attend another full session at a later date.
