New Member Orientation:
An Overview of the Top 7 Areas to Help You Get Started with CCASTD

Welcome to CCASTD! As a new member, you may be wondering: where do I start? The CCASTD website is filled with information and it might seem a bit overwhelming at first glance. This brief orientation was developed with you, the new member, in mind. It will introduce you to the organization by covering all of the essentials in a simple, streamlined manner. Once you have an overview, it will be easier to focus your attention on those areas of particular interest for you.

Step One: Events

Click here to view the events calendar at-a-glance. This will help you decide which events to attend so you can plan accordingly. It is best to register early to get the early bird discount rate.

Transportation Alert: If you are a member who needs a ride to events or has a car and is willing to carpool, look for the “Carpool Connection” link next to each event listing. You will be taken to the member interactive forum where you can coordinate transportation via email. This is a great way to pool resources and make new friends at the same time!

Step Two: Member Communications

Click here to be taken to the Member Communications page. As a member, you will receive the quarterly Training Today magazine and The UPDATE chapter newsletter. These publications are available in electronic format on the website. Take a moment to peruse the latest issues to bring you “up to speed” with chapter news. The chapter also sends out E-Blast electronic reminders prior to events.

Later, you may wish to return and read many of the excellent articles archived in past issues. Article titles are listed on the Web site below the corresponding Training Today issue for easy reference.

Step Three: Volunteer!

Click here to be taken to our Member Volunteer page. The fastest way to make friends, network, gain valuable experience, and strengthen the chapter is by volunteering your time and talents. Several opportunities are available and most take only a few hours a month.

Unsure? If you don’t see something that interests you, simply fill out the general volunteer form at the top of the page. You will be able to indicate your preferences regarding skills you wish to learn and skills you wish to use during your membership, and you will be contacted later.

Step Four: Professional Development Opportunities

Click here to be taken to the Professional Development Network (PDN) page. Here you will find subsets of members who have organized around special interests to further their professional development. If you do not see one that interests you, consider starting a PDN of your own — directions are given for how to start the process.

Step Five: Access Members-only Benefits

Click here to be taken to the Member Benefits Password page. Here you will find a review of password instructions to gain access to the Membership Directory, Membership Website, and Online Job Bank areas of the website.

Step Six: Other Areas of Interest

Click here to be taken to the Online Bookstore, in partnership with Amazon.com, where you will find a list of recommended books and a list of books written by CCASTD members. Important: when making purchases through our website, be sure to utilize our Chapter Code CH5009 when prompted for the Chapter or Source Code. It is a tracking code linked to ASTD that returns a portion of the revenue to our chapter, which helps improve our services to you.
Click here to be taken to the Interactive Forum, where you can join interesting discussions or start one of your own.
Click here to review the ASTD and CCASTD Ethics Codes. These are the principles that guide our professional behavior.

Step Seven: Meet the Board of Directors

Click here to be taken to the Committees / Board page where you will get an overview of CCASTD structure and leadership and be introduced to the current Board of Directors. You are welcome to contact them with questions, comments, or concerns by simply clicking on their name, which will set up their email address for you. Please feel free to contact members of the Board / Committees — they want to hear from members!
We hope you have enjoyed this Orientation and that is has been a useful tool for getting your CCASTD bearings. Once again, welcome and thank you for your membership!
